He was born in a christian noble family between about 275 AD and 285 AD. Saint George was a Roman soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian. He is one of the most venerated saints in the orthodox and catholic churches. In the year AD 302, Diocletian issued an edict that every Christian soldier in the army should be arrested and every other soldier should offer a sacrifice to the Pagan gods, became in a martyir. So he was executed and later the christian people was turned him into a Saint. About his life and death, people makes a beautiful legend about Saint George and a Dragon.

How do people celebrate it all over the world?

In most of the countries that celebrate Saint George there are a lot of festivities:
Here there are three examples:
In Belgium: In the heart of the city, there are a reconstitution (known as the “Combat dit Lumeçon”) of the fight between Saint Georges and the dragon.

Saint George

On the 23th of April we celebrate Saint George Day. But who was Saint George? What did he do on the 23th of April? How do we celebrate it? And how do other countries celebrate it?

Saint George was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier in the Guard of Diocletian, who is venerated as a Christian martyr. Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, and the Eastern Catholic Churches. He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.

The legend says that on the 23th of April, Saint George rescued the princess from "the nails" of the dragon. And he killed it, later from the blood of the dragon grew up a beautiful red rose. And then, the princess give to him a book.

That's because on this day, Catalan men give as a present a rose to their loves and the women give to them a book.

In other parts of the world this tradition isn't as important as here, but there are different celebrations: people go to church, to processions, prepare traditional food and sing and dance... in some different places of the world.

Exchange in IES Salvador Espriu!!

A few weeks ago, a group of Dutch students came to IES Salvador Espriu to do an exchange. They stayed for a week in our houses. We did a lot of activities together and we had fun.
At school we did art, we practised with modernism making a bookmark, we did P.E. too. We played table tennis and basketball. Outside the school, we went to Montserrat and to Parc Guell together. Then they went to other places without us: 'Museu del Barça', 'Sagrada Familia', 'Santa Maria del Mar'...
At the weekend they wanted to go shopping and do more things. They weren't tired!
They were very friendly, so it wasn't difficult to be with them. They even taught us some Dutch words!
In May we will go to Breda to stay a week in their houses and to visit their school. We will also go to Amsterdam and do a lot of fun activities!!

Let's discuss =)

Now we are going to write the conclusion about the discussion we had about blogs. In the round table there were four characters: a mother of a teenager, a student, a teacher and a blog sale manager. We were agree about create a blog, but we saw that the mothers don't accept directly that their children have a blog. Teacher wants a blog for the student, because he/she think it will be good for the homework, and the student want it to talk with his/her friends, for the homework or for visit the school blog.
This is the situation, and we think that the shool blog that the teacher is making, is only for school tasks, but is not the problem of the teacher if in his/her house the student make one, to interact with his/her friends. There is a solution, the mother will be resposable, to his/her blog in house, and the teacher will be resposable of the blog in the school.

And finally all stay happy XD
